DOWNTOWN. APEX stands for the African-American Panoramic Experience. As you walk through this exhibit, you'll be inundated with images depicting African-American lives from the days of slavery through the Civil War, continuing to the present day. This unique museum combines historic and artistic displays to create a fascinating and informative experience.
Atlanta Cyclorama and Civil War Museum

GRANT PARK. Visitors to the Atlanta Cyclorama are transported to July of 1864 and the Battle of Atlanta. Seated on a revolving platform, viewers almost become part of the battle as sound and lighting effects, along with narration, bring the scene to life. The painting is 42 feet high and covers the walls of a circular room over 110 feet in diameter. The Civil War exhibits in the museum include the historic locomotive "Texas." Gift shop on site.
Center for Puppetry Arts

MIDTOWN. Puppetry is its own art form, combining art and drama to educate and entertain. This museum - the largest of its kind in the world - takes visitors on a tour of the development of puppetry around the world. See all kinds of puppets, from Indonesian shadow figures to the ever-popular Muppets characters. Displays also show how puppets are made, and performances are held regularly. The gift shop is a fun place to pick up a unique gift.

NORTH DRUID HILLS ROAD. This educational museum helps all ages learn more about earth and the universe. View the skies in the planetarium and observatory, which is home to the world's largest telescope used for educational purposes; explore volcanos via video; or wander through the greenhouse to find out about the worlds of botany and horticulture. The shows in the popular IMAX theatre cover a range of scientific topics. Special events for children and adults are held throughout the year.
High Museum of Art

MIDTOWN. This popular museum, in its striking contemporary building, features four floors of European and American paintings, decorative items, photography, graphics and African art. The permanent collection showcases works by renowned artists such as Claude Monet, Andy Warhol and Georgia O'Keeffe.
